Born October 26, 1925, in State Center, Iowa, Mildred Katheryn McIntosh was the daughter of Paul and Grace (Cowan) Smith.  She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1943, then attended beauty school and opened her own beauty shop in Maxwell.  On May 13, 1963, she married Dale Richard McIntosh at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

In earlier years, Mildred helped with the Girl Scouts and played on the Maxwell softball team.  She was active in the community and volunteered much of her time serving at the Community Historical Society and the American Legion Auxiliary.  Mildred was artistic and enjoyed making ceramic dolls and other projects, many of which she gifted to family and friends.  Music played a big role in her life and Mildred especially enjoyed get-togethers with her family to play the piano and share musical talents.

Survivors include her husband, Dale; four brothers, Robert Smith of Rhodes, Eldon (Carol) Smith of Gresham, OR, Clyde (Carol) Smith of Independence, and Everett (Gail) Smith of Maxwell; three sisters, Anna Tyler of Maxwell, Pauline Perin of Rhodes, and Lois (Kenneth) Westercamp of Bloomfield; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Earl Smith and Jim Smith; and three sisters, Ethel Nady, Dorothy Smith, and Mary Lou in infancy.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Mildred and her family.

“this is from the Carroll (cactus) and Loretta Smith family, (cousins). Mildred was a great lady and will be greatly missed. I Remember when Grandma (Mable)Smith used to take us twins to get our hair permed.
and going to family reunions. Mildred was always so bubbly. And If I remember she used to cut all four of my brothers hair when staying with our Grandmother. She will be missed. We used to stop and visit with her and Dale when we'd been to visit our grandparents and always took detour to Maxwell to see them.”
